Who runs Kids Music Company - East Auckland?

Jo Charman (Grad Dip Ed (Arts), Dip.Tchg, T.T.C, C.A.T.E)

Jo loves working with children and passionately believes that the arts and especially music provide a strong platform to support a child's learning and discovery.
She has been teaching for more than twenty years in a variety of education environments, ranging from primary through to tertiary. For the past 10 years Jo has been the Music and Drama Specialist and a senior teacher at Mellons Bay Primary School, Howick. Her role as music specialist has included training choirs, orchestral groups and individual instruments including the ukelele and marimba.

As a primary school teacher Jo regularly utilised ‘The Kids Company' resources, discovering they provide the ideal educational basis to develop a child's physical, academic and language skills in a fun filled and friendly environment. Learning in this way has the added advantage of promoting a child's creativity and fostering social connections. And why shouldn't learning be fun!

Music has always been at the center of Jo's career and personal life. As a high school student she was a member of a concert choir performing in national competitions and overseas. She has been a member of the Howick Operatic Society, a lead guitarist in an all girls rock band and is currently a member of the Bruce Murray Singers, an award winning choir based in Howick.

Jo is a member of ONZA (Orff N.Z. Association)
